They say the rest of the world passes you by when you live in Hawaii but one thing it’s not behind on is The Struts. I’ve heard they get more radio air time in Honolulu than any other US city, which is a welcomed phenomenon because they’re said to be the band that is here to save rock ‘n’ roll! Flanked by continual comparisons to The Rolling Stones, Queen and David Bowie, these Englishmen have entirely embodied the legends they idolize. Lead singer Luke Spiller’s favorite era is ‘70s Glam, and he’s effortlessly reinterpreted just that. He is all that sparkles; purring complex vocals peppered with several glittering wardrobe changes! Some bands seem to use flamboyance as an angle to cover up lack in talent but this is true European flair breathing life into a freshness of sound. You’ll be powerless to control your foot-tapping with their feel-good songs that are seemingly reminiscent of songs you’ve been crooning for years. The first performance I saw I sincerely thought one of their tracks was a cover, because without delay, you’re dialed in to singing along. But rest assured their songs are profoundly their own. That Wednesday they invigorated a humble audience by engaging in a friendly buzz session and then unleashing their acoustic abilities; followed by a bewitching (fully amplified) performance the next night to a much weightier crowd. Their swaggering, contemporary version of Glam Rock brings a sense of adventure that will leave you yearning for their second album release, thus providing more songs to play live! Enter now for your chance to win a flyaway to meet The Struts at Austin City Limits!
