I cannot take credit for noticing this group on my own, their praises were whispered in my ear many years ago. But I want to acknowledge my gratefulness that I was beckoned because they are indeed a feast for the ears. Piloted by son of the long treasured Willie, Lukas Nelson lives up to the natural musical affinity you assume would bless him. I still remember a face in the crowd gratuitously saying to me "Lukas sounds more like Willie than Willie". I am adamant though that he will continue revealing much more than vocals sounding like his widely beloved father. Some may equate that voice, along with youth and dashing good looks, to his gospel following. But underneath energetic antics is a talent that embodies soulful smarts. A jazz and blues upbringing has fostered a creative collision of country and island music. Promise of the Real's rhythmic lines are richly layered with percussion conjuring a reggae-like vibrance. Listening to wasted will elevate you to a high the Maui-dwelling admittedly inebriated Lukas writes in. So dive in with the rest of the "Realers" and get down to the nitty-gritty of life with this reflective rock 'n hippie roll!
