I happened upon Jamie Kent at SXSW 4 years ago and have been following him intently ever since. He is truly one of the hardest working artists out there, but never one to boast about it, and such modesty can be hard to come by nowadays in the music world. But that is not why I like him or what I want to highlight (you can read up on his entrepreneurialism in nearly every other write-up of him that is out there). He holds my attention for two main reasons. One is his indescribable style and charisma that washes over you like the first time you watch Inside Llewyn Davis, with folkloric imagery unfolding at every turn. The other is his dynamic ability to mingle in different genres with complete control, unlike many artists flailling about hoping to hit on their niche if they attempt every style. So with the navigation of Jamie's life from New England to Nashville this week (and my finding I like him even more as I learn we share an admiration for the the band First Aid Kit) I encourage you to start paying attention to him now and not be last to the bandwagon!
